Sea Turtle Information

Sea Turtle

Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins March 1st and ends October 31st

Per Town Ordinance Section 26-823, Shielding of Light. All oceanfront property owners are required to ensure that all lighting shall be positioned or shielded so that light is not visible from the beach during this period.

How You Can Help Protect Sea Turtles:

Lights Out: Turn off/shield lights facing the beach at night. Lights confuse hatchlings.

Leave No Trace: Remove chairs, umbrellas, and trash, and fill in any holes before leaving.

Keep Your Distance: Do not disturb nesting turtles or hatchlings and avoid flash photography.

Report Issues: Contact Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission if you see a problem.

There are 3 types of Sea Turtles:

  • Tortoise Turtles (Land only)
  • Terrapin Turtles (Lakes and Ponds)
  • Sea Turtles (Ocean only)

There are only 7 species of Sea Turtles 3 of which come to Palm Beach County to nest. These are the Loggerhead, the Leatherback, and the Green.

If you see a sea turtle hatch during the day, please call Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach at :  561-627-8280
